Fundamentals of Harmony, conducted by Toro Cheng
This clinic will cover chord construction and chord symbols in detail and will also introduce to you the fundamentals of Diatonic Harmony including Tonic, Sub Dominant and Dominant type diatonic chords.

Clinic 2 | 4pm – 5:30 pm
Advanced Jazz Voicing conducted by Justin Lim
This clinic is targeted at jazz piano enthusiasts and students who have a basic understanding of harmony and are keen to expand their vocabulary in jazz voicings. It aims to suggest practical ways for moving "beyond the lead sheet" through the embellishment of basic harmony. Specifically, this clinic will focus on the application of harmonic tensions on common diatonic chords (major, minor, dominant).

Jazz Improvisation for Beginners, conducted by Ch’ng Wee Lern
Part 1: Rhythm - Working on the swing feel
- upbeat and downbeat accents
- slow swing, medium swing and fast swing
Part 2: Melodic - Using scales to improvise
- avoiding bad habits of starting on the downbeat
- using upbeats to start / end phrases
- using enclosures
Part 3: Harmonic - Positional playing
- using inversions to position the RH while improvising
Part 4: Summary
- application of all priniciples covered

Fusion Jazz Improvisation, conducted by Edvard Lee
Fusion improvisation will touch on the usage of quartals, pentatonic and blues scales that go with the high energy rhythms that drive this exciting genre of Contemporary Jazz Music.

What to Practice in Jazz? How to practice Jazz???  Most of us going through learning to play music, by playing classical music, or written music. Some of us learn by ear, picking up our favorite songs, by rote. Jazz seems to be so outrageously difficult and unpredictable, when it comes to practicing it, let alone playing it!  Here at this forum, we have invited practitioners of this art called Jazz to join us and talk about their personal paths in learning and playing this music.
